A Few Great Women in History

Today we got a little lesson in history among a few of the greatest women in world history, namely Mona Lisa and Aphrodite.

We woke up early this morning to beat the rush of enthused and determined tourists wanting a snap shot of the Mona Lisa themselves. We arrived at the Louvre at 8:30AM, cued up and were one of the first to enter the museum when it opened at 9AM. I knew I wanted a picture with her without anyone else blocking the view, so dad and I hurried straight towards the Italian paintings, past all these wonderful masterpieces that I couldn't care less about at this point to the room which held Leonardo Da Vinci's creation behind a big glass case. It was smaller than I had expected, but nonetheless it was amazing.

Our next mission was to find Aphrodite in the Greek sculpture section of the museum. The museum is absolutely huge - you could literally spend a week in there and still not see everything. Therefore you had to pick and choose wisely and head straight there otherwise you risk not ever getting around to it. We found Aphrodite standing in the middle of a room with the sunlight shining on her from the window above. It was very goddess-like. We got a picture with her and then took our time looking at different paintings and sculptures. The most magnificent part of the museum is the building itself. It was so lavish and extravagant and filled to the brim with detail. At any point you could look up and be awed by what you see. Here are a few pictures of what I mean.

After the museum we met up with Mark. We got some tickets for The King's Speech then went to grab a bite to eat. The movie was amazing! If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

We're spending the day in Versailles tomorrow. We'll be visiting the Chateau that is there. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

xoxo
